Behind the Seams

Andrea Dela Torre Shares Her Process and Playlist

Each style has a story, and every designer has a way of creative play. Before a certain piece reached the racks of our stores, it was first an idea sketched by the hands that have gone through many days with this routine — which got us wondering, how do our designers prepare for this creative experience? We asked Bayo’s fashion designer, Andrea Dela Torre, to take us to her process of bopping tunes to popping hues.

What’s your creative process like when you design pieces? Where do you usually find inspiration?

[I find inspiration in / I start with] my Champorado Cold Brew! It usually starts with a concept or a value we feel the Bayo Girl can resonate with. Then we curate the colors and the patterns that feel right. And, the rest is about finding and perfecting silhouettes that make them feel at home in their own skin.

How did you start in fashion design? Was it always something you wanted to do growing up?

[I started with] dressing up dolls, losing their outfits, and giving them crafted paper ones instead.

Do you have advice for the youngins who want to pursue fashion or design?

Don’t judge your work until you’ve finished 50-100 iterations. Focusing on one great masterpiece isn’t a sustainable mindset.

What’s one thing you wish more women would know about fashion?

You’re bound to experiment with different styles throughout the years — that’s part of the process. In the end, you’ll grow into your own style, not by comparing yourself to the latest trends but by seeing yourself light up in the mirror.

Do you have a playlist of songs you listen to while you work?

  1. Still Dreaming by Ravenna
  2. Sky Fall by Sepia Times
  3. Dilemme by Lous and the Yakuza
  4. Movie by Tom Misch
  5. Introverts by J’von

Gaile Caceres Shares Her Process and Playlist

In an ambience that feels just right to welcome a creative flow, our fashion designer Gaile Caceres finds herself taking experiences to new styles for the Bayo girl. Here’s a glimpse of Gaile’s preparation for her creative routine and her practice in fashion.

What’s your creative process like when you design pieces? Where do you usually find inspiration?

It's all about the little things that make creativity come alive. Mine is fueled by a matcha latte and a cozy scented candle, setting the perfect atmosphere for bringing our vision of a #BayoGirl to life.

How did you start in fashion design? Was it always something you wanted to do growing up?

When I was a kid, playing with dress-up dolls sparked my interest in fashion - little did I know it would become my career one day! Joining Bayo opened my eyes to the possibilities of using fashion as a creative outlet, and I'm glad I took the chance!

Do you have advice for the youngins who want to pursue fashion or design?

We all make mistakes, and that's okay. As a designer, see them as an opportunity to learn, grow, and progress. It's the lows that make us appreciate the highs!

What’s one thing you wish more women would know about fashion?

Your body is a beautiful and ever-evolving reflection of you! Learning to love and work with your body is a superpower that will serve you well throughout life.

Do you have a playlist or songs you listen to while you work?

  2. Sorbet by Galdive
  3. I’ll Just Dance by Su Lee
